Sunset in Korcula
After my stay in Dubrovnik, I decided to rent a car and drive north along the coast to the island of Korcula. The scenic drive along the coast took me past some of the most beautiful areas I have ever seen. The small curvy roads over the cliffs left me looking in every direction possible because there were so many places I wanted to stop and admire more. I had to keep reminding myself to look at the road! I passed through tons of old towns and vineyards, where you could stop and taste the local wines and explore the historic places.
From Dubrovnik, I drove to Orebic, where I had to take a ferry to the island of Korcula. I had about an hour to spare before the ferry left, so I walked around the town and sat to relax at a small beach near the port. Orebic is a small place, with views of the islands surrounding it and, again, I was able to enjoy the most calm and clear water at the beach. The town had a relaxed feel to it, with a few outdoor cafes along the water. The ferry ride gave me the ability to see Orebic from a distance, admire the panoramic view of all the islands surrounding it, and get a preview of Korcula.
In Korcula, I stayed near the old city and drove around the island to admire the numerous secluded beaches there. The island is quite large and the beaches there are really diverse. I found sandy and rocky ones, some easily accessible with beachside restaurants, and some so secluded that not a person or building was in sight. The entire island seemed like the perfect place to get away form it all and relax from the pressure of every day life. Outside the main towns, the land was all undeveloped and natural. At the end of the day, I drove to one of the towns located on a hill to watch the sunset. For the second night in a row, I witnessed one of the most beautiful sunsets ever. The land was lit up with rainbow colors all around and as the sun got closer to the water, it lit up the sky in deep orange and red hues. It was AMAZING!
