Elafiti Islands, Croatia

While in Dubrovnik, I took a cruise of the Elafiti Islands, which are scattered along the coast of the Old Town in Croatia.  We stopped at three islands - Kolocep, Lopud, and Sipan.  The trip took place on an a ship designed like a galleon from the 16th century and a costumed crew dressed like pirates entertained us with live music as we sailed through the islands.

Each island was unique in its own way and the cruise through all of them was beautiful.  I know I'm mentioning it again, but the color of the water is so gorgeous!  The sea is so calm, clear and peaceful.  Small towns were located at the little ports of each island, with little cafés and a couple small hotels.  There are also several gothic churches on each and one offered great views of the island from the rooftop.  Rocky and sandy beaches were found in small coves and quaint homes lined the few streets on each of them.  They islands were so green and undisturbed, making the trip feel like a true escape from the real world.   Vegetable and herb gardens and numerous flowers gardens surrounded the homes there and I found it adorable.

The trip was filled with people from all over the world; I met people from Canada, France, England, and Germany.  On the final island, I paid $4.00 to rent a lounge chair on the beach and chose to relax and swim in the Adriatic for a couple hours.  Compared to the water in South Florida, it was freezing!  But, it felt great and because of the calmness of the water, you can just float there forever.  A gelato stand was only a few steps away, making for a great treat.  A really nice day!
