Cascais, Portugal

Cascais was awesome!  It is a beach and fishing village just west of Lisbon on the Estoril coast of Portugal.  I took the train out there from Lisbon, which took about 40 minutes from the central station.  The train stops in the middle of town and runs all day, making it very convenient for a day trip.

Cascais is very popular with locals to get  away and relax at the string of sandy bays that the area has to offer.  There is also a brand new marina, beautiful walking paths along the coast, boutique shops, and an impressive variety of open-air restaurants.

The little bay beaches have cafés and bars available for the beach goers and Rua Frederico Arouca is alive with people having snacks and drinks with their friends after spending the day boating, participating in water sports, and swimming.

From downtown, I took the path through the marina and along the rocky coast to Boca do Inferno (Hell's Mouth).  There was so much to admire along this path and it was extremely enjoyable to look at the different buildings and coves.  I noticed a lot of divers, snorkelers, and fisherman along the way too.  Several boutique hotels popped up along the ways and looked like cool places to stay in the future.

Once I reached Boca do Inferno, I walked back downtown trough the residential neighborhoods, which reminded me of the quaint older neighborhoods near Santa Monica and Studio City in California.  It was so cute and everyone was in such a good mood!

Before heading back to Lisbon, I picked an Indian and Portuguese restaurant for dinner and drinks, which was delicious.  Many of the people there were from multiple parts of the world and I was able to get some future traveling advice from the staff and fellow diners :)
